More than Just a Bait Shop!

The Nipigon River has a long history as a major fur-trading route and later as a world class Brook Trout River. Today, the Nipigon River has three hydro-electric dams and the area has become an outdoors adventure destination the world over. We offer pristine boreal forest with all the amenities you are accustomed to.

Nipigon River Recreational Trail - Nipigon End

Trail Heads

A little over 8km long all seasons trail joining Nipigon and Red Rock. The Nipigon Half of the trail is flat along the river, then rising onto the Plateau to Red Rock with Fantastic views of Nipigon Bay, the River and Red Rock.

In days gone by….

the Skandia House was a three-story hotel and boarding house, built in 1909 by the Olsen Brothers. The cement blocks used in the original construction (made on site) are still intact today. The Alku Cooperative Restaurant was located inside the building. During the hungry thirties, men riding the rails could count on filling their bellies here before getting back on the train. The boarding house was eventually sold and converted into a two-storey family home where the O’Neill family was raised.
