The primary species for this part of the river are Brook Trout and Lake Trout.

Access via Jesse Lake maintained boat launch is located on the gravel southern shore of Jesse Lake accessed via a bush road off of Highway 585 (Cameron Falls Road) – turn north at Petro Canada Station.

Multiple crown land camping locations are located on Jesse Lake.

The area from Jesse Lake north to just below Pine Portage Dam is a prime destination for people fishing for large Brook Trout.

The river is deep with only a few hazards to watch for. The same hazards offer structure and are prime fishing locations.

Cox Lake, to the west, holds Smallmouth Bass and Pike. South Bay Road off of Cameron Falls Road is access to South Bay on Lake Nipigon.

Forgan Lake above the dam north into Lake Nipigon is another prime destination for those seeking large Brook Trout.
